I joined a 401k at work while I was a JW so I must have been having some doubts about what they were teaching at that time. Right after I left I decided to save enough to buy a house. A few years before this jdubs were selling their home to pioneer or move to "where the need was great". A lot of them never recovered from that blunder. I'm retired now and don't have the financial worries many of the jdubs I knew have that spent their whole lives believing Watchtower lies.

I quit!
Forty plus years ago I was having the beard discussion with fellow Jdubs. All I heard was crap like "it's worldly or wait on Jehovah". I got tired of waiting and their lame reasoning, so I grew a beard. A year or two later I decided I was probably going to leave the Watchtower. They were having a special assembly at Dodger Stadium and I decided to go and listen and give them one last chance to say something intelligent that would make me want to stay.
What wonderful message did these enlightened follows of Jehovah have for us that day? They railed on and on about rebellious brothers doing horrible things like growing beards. There sat the bearded me standing out like a sore thumb listening to them spew out this ridiculous nonsense. They said things like why you are making such a big deal out of things instead of just going along with the organization. I was thinking "I'm making such a big deal out of it? Who rented Dodger Stadium and call on witnesses from all over California to come hear you bitch about beards'" So that was the last meeting I ever went to. I got on with my life and overall, it has been great.
Now they are changing their position on beards. It took Jehovah and his stooges decades to catch up to me. All I say is PISS OFF!

Real reasons behind this change?
by Gorb injust a good conversation at home about the hour report change.. we think the change was not impmemented because the gb are such a lovely bunch of old grandpa's having the best in mind for us individuals.. there will be only, and we say only, an organizational reason for it.
a legal reason, to protect jw.org and it's officials and wealth.. next step?
maybe selling more kh and when jw hollywood studio's in rampoo are ready a change to tv subscription.. what do you think?

If there were a box here to check ALL OF THE ABOVE I'd probably check it. Magazines and newspapers are becoming a thing of the past. Most people get their info off of the internet. Covid got them out of the habit of going door to door now they just stand on corners and direct people to their website. By doing away with timecards and the door to door work they can hide the fact that the hours are way down and shield themselves from any liability they have if one of their "publishers" is injured while doing it. Maybe they've discovered how lucrative televangelism can be. Just keep listening to us and sending us your money and we'll give you all the tools you need to survive Armageddon.

How many new converts do you remember as a JW?
by SydBarrett ininspired by the "whats the reason you think jw's are in decline" thread.
my belief is that almost all the growth, at least in the western world is due to jw's having kids.
i was a 4th generation jw from birth till about age 20, so the timeframe i can comment on would be my teen years.

I got involved with the witnesses around 1970. There were a lot of people coming in at that time including myself. I could probably name at least 20 people and their children that became Jdubs and attended the same congregation as me. That was a special time period for the Watchtower Society that I don't think will ever be repeated. Now with the internet it is to easy to find out the truth about what they teach and see all their past mistakes. And now with JW dot org there is no mystery as to who is running the show. You can go there and see how goofy the guys who claim to be in touch with god are.

Stan, That's how I got rid of a lot of Watchtower crap years ago. It felt pretty good watching them go up in flames.

I can't be bothered trying to sell them so I'll probably wind up taking them to a Goodwill drop off along with all the other crap I'm getting rid of.
A few years ago, my wife through away all of her old magazines and bound volumes and older books. I'm sure she was directed to by Watchtower.

Anyone in the Orange County or LA area want some old Watchtower books that I want to get rid of. I bought them when I first left the tower to look things up. They've been sitting around garages or my shed for 30 plus years. I'm moving soon and can't be bothered moving them. Several copies are signed by Jehovah himself. (Kidding of course) Anyway if anyone wants them they can have them. I took a photo of them but didn't know if I could post it here. One is from the early 19th century others from the 1930s and 40s.

One question to ask Lloyd Evans
by usualusername1 inlloyd evans has a livestream and must answer all questions.
the only catch.
you can only ask one question plus a follow up.. my fave so far is would you want your daughter to marry a man who was unfaithful every few months with prostitutes.. what would you ask him?.

I don't know what question you could ask him that he would answer honestly. He doesn't seem capable of admitting he f'ed and needs to apologize to his wife, his friends and everyone else he has hurt or caused harm to. I think that apology should also include the sex workers who probably aren't there by choice that he has use. A sincere apology would include stepping down and finding something else to do for a living. However, I think we've already seen as much as an apology as we'll ever see out of him and now it just business as usual. He'll still have his loyal followers but that doesn't prove anything. Even serial killers in prison often seem to have a fan base.

It seems strange that an organization that has produced so much of their content anonymously would think they have the right to know someone else's identification.
